Well, Actuarially...

Living up to my blog name

It is official, I have my first actuarial job. I am very happy about it, but the truth is I'm a fairly happy person in general — except when I'm driving.

Just this morning I ran into a quote from Ernest Hemmingway on the limits of a geography change impacting our temperment:

Going to another country doesn't make any difference. I've tried all that. You can't get away from yourself by moving from one place to another. There's nothing to that.

And while it's certainly true that we can't get away from ourselves, having a free snacks can fix me — or maybe it's more the prospect of a stable job.

I already love the people I'm working with, but I generally love people so no surprise there. Plus this is the first time in my life that I've been entirely surrounded by math/computer geeks so that is going to be a ton of fun.

And for the first time in my life I'm taking public transit to work! Awesome and jarring to me that almost everyone at my job takes public transit too. Just sick as hell.

In particular I really like the other interns I'm working with. I got my career changer buddy who is super nice and I thin I'm going to get along well with. I've also got my college student intern buddies who definitely have the demeanor of college students (which do not get me wrong, is not a negative thing at all).

Anyways, I'll give more updates once I'm doing the job part of the job. Day one was mind numbing corporate onboarding. This too shall pass and then it's spreadsheets, spreadsheets, spreadsheets!
